The Sheriff's Department and Jail function to serve the law enforcement needs of Hamblen County and Morristown. The Sheriff's position is a 4-year term, elected by the citizens of Hamblen County. The Hamblen County Jail is a 157 bed facility. Currently in the capital projects section of the government, you will find the Jail Addition project, which will add an additional 30 beds. The Jail is type 1-certified. The Hamblen County Legislative Body is working on implementing a Civil Service plan at the Sheriff's Department and Jail during Fiscal Year 2003-2004.
